Who are you?
I am a photographer based in the North West. I completed my MA at Manchester School of Art and degree at the University of Chester. Consistent themes within my work include narrative and memory and visually tend to have an ethereal quality.
I presented a project titled Tabula Rasa, meaning ‘blank slate’ in Latin. The project explored the family album, collating a series of photographs where siblings are dressed in identical outfits and accompanying these with fictional narratives, to comment on memory, identity and loss, inherent in the medium of photography.
What have you done with the project since then?
The work was shown in the Holden Gallery, Manchester, as part of the MA show, at Guernsey Photography Festival 2014 and was selected by Paul Moakley of Time Magazine to be featured in Source magazine.
Tell us about your experience presenting at Hothouse
Hothouse was a great experience and a good opportunity to get some feedback on the work from a wider audience. It was a really supportive environment and I found it inspiring to talk to the other speakers and listen to them explain their work, which sparked new ideas for future projects.
What are you up to now?
I am currently teaching photography at Shrewsbury College of Art and continuing to produce my own work. At present, I am exploring family history through travel and place, though this is in the early stages of development and I am not sure how it will progress, however, I am excited to find out.
