John Berger wrote in Ways of Seeing (1972): the relation between what we see and what we know is never settled. Each evening we see the sun set. We know that the earth is turning away from it. Yet the knowledge, the explanation, never quite fits the sight.’

Connected by their desire to join dots between seeing and knowing, the artists in this exhibition have all made work that questions structures or scientific facts. Each reveals the complexity of systems which produce and mediate images or truths, interrogating the stability of material evidence and how we understand what we see.
