This spring, one of Manchester’s landmark buildings hosts Hit the North, a major group art exhibition.
Assembled by leading photography curator Greg Hobson, works by contemporary photographic artists will explore notions of the North of England. Rather than exploiting northern pictorial tropes and stereotypes, the photographs will relate to the artists' interests, explorations and geographical investigations. With works taken from the last five decades, the exhibition spans a wide range of subject matter, from incisive and edgy studio portraiture to grand rural vistas to quietly observed urban details.
Filling Central Library’s large first-floor exhibition space, the show will be the first staged by Hobo Photo, an ongoing high-quality commercial programme of roving curated art exhibitions.
