Peripheral Histories features work by Calum Douglas, Alan Knox, Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte and Sarah Amy Fishlock. Each photographer has a distinct body of work but shares thematic, aesthetic and conceptual overlaps.
Calum Douglas explores the tension between science and belief in the search for extra-terrestrial life in America’s south-western states, while Alan Knox documents the astrological community, exploring their belief in a holistic universe in which every event on Earth has a causal relationship with the movement of the planets. Kotryna Ula Kiliulyte combines photographs made by her father in the last days of the Soviet Union’s grip on her native Lithuania and her own images of life in the west made using expired film as old as the one used by her father. Sarah Amy Fishlock takes the trajectory of her late father’s life as a point of departure to investigate ideas of grief, mortality and memory.
