Redeye's critique surgeries are aimed at photographers looking for any advice and feedback on their work or practice.
We are delighted to welcome guest panellists Clarissa Corfe, Contemporary Art Curator at Harris Museum & Art Gallery, and Ying Tan, Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art Curator, in addition to Redeye's Director Paul Herrmann.
Who is it for?
The critique surgeries are designed to be informal sessions for photographers who are looking for feedback and advice. Maybe you are struggling for inspiration, have hit a dead end with your latest project or you simply want advice on where, or who, to show your work to. You might want advice on improving your work, or to discuss career moves. These sessions are designed as a friendly alternative to portfolio reviews, and can be used to prepare your portfolio for an upcoming review or competition. Redeye welcomes photographers at all levels and at all career stages.
How much is it?
The Critique Surgeries are programmed quarterly and are currently free for Redeye members. To find out more about becoming a member go to our membership page. Price for non-members is £20 (the equivalent to five months membership if you decide to join instead).

The critique surgeries are a regular addition to our events programme, with surgeries every few months and in different locations across the country. About the Panellists
Ying Tan is currently the curator at Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA), where she is in charge of the annual programme of exhibitions, public programme, as well as national and international touring shows. She has curated numerous exhibitions in CFCCA, in addition to many other off-site projects in London and internationally. This includes the co-commission of Haze & Fog with Cao Fei (2013), as well as UK premiers of What Happened in the Year of the Dragon (2014) with Sun Xun and Xu Bing's Book from the Ground (2003-present). She is a visiting lecturer for Christie's Education (UK) and a contributor to KALEIDOSCOPE Asia Magazine. She is also on the curatorial faculty for Liverpool Biennial.
As Contemporary Art Curator at Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Clarissa Corfe is responsible for curating the contemporary art, as well as Dance First, Think Later programme of exhibitions and events. She initiated and led on the commissioning of the application process that won the museum the Contemporary Art Society Award 2014 with internationally acclaimed artist Nathaniel Mellors. She has initiated and organised curatorial development trips to Istanbul, 2007, Berlin, 2008 and Havana 2012 for 31 North West based curators to meet Biennial curators and galleries, forging international links and partnerships. As a freelance curatorial consultant she has worked on artists’ professional development, organisational development as well as curatorial projects for Tatton Park Biennial, Barnaby Festival and Axis among others. She has previously worked at Arts Council England where she was instrumental in initiating Sideshow and Format Photography Festival. She has also worked at Castlefield Gallery, Tate Liverpool, The Lowry and Liverpool Biennial.
Paul Herrmann is the Director of Redeye, current chair of The British Photographic Council, set up LOOK festival in Liverpool and the Northern Photography Consortium, and is curently establishing the Photographic Collections Network, which will be a knowledge exchange and advocacy network for anyone working with collections or archives, launching in Autumn 2016. Paul is happy to talk about any aspect of work but specialises particularly in business models and career paths in photography.
Accessibility:
The event takes place on the lower fround floor of the gallery in the Jasmine Suite and is wheelchair-accessible via a lift located to the left of the staircase. Currently attendees are given the option of booking multiple slots but please be aware that if you are unable to attend your slots we require advance notice.
