This February we're taking our Critique Surgeries to The New Art Gallery Walsall. Come along and get informal advice on your career and work during 30-minute one-to-one sessions with experts in the industry. This month we welcome artist and writer Anthony Luvera, independent producer and co-founder of Grain Photography Hub Nicola Shipley, founder and owner of Argentea Gallery Jennie Anderson, alongside Redeye's Director Paul Herrmann.  

Who is it for?
The Critique Surgeries are designed to be informal sessions for photographers who are looking for feedback and advice. Maybe you are struggling for inspiration, have hit a dead end with your latest project or you simply want advice on where, or who, to show your work to. These sessions are a relaxed alternative to a portfolio review and can be used to prepare your portfolio for an upcoming review or competition. When

11:00 until 15:00 on 10 February 2018. Please choose your preferred 30-minute slot at the time of booking. Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes before your designated slot.

Where
The New Art Gallery Walsall, Gallery Square, Walsall WS2 8LG. The venue is fully accessible.

Tickets
The Critique Surgeries are currently free for Redeye members - although limited to one free slot per member. To find out more about becoming a member please visit our membership page. Price for non-members is £20 (the equivalent to five months membership if you decide to join instead). 

Space is limited so please book onto a specific 30-minute time slot. If you are unable to attend your appointment please let Charlie Booth know as soon as possible. The Critique Surgeries are a regular feature of our events programme, with surgeries every few months and in different locations across the country. More about the reviewers:

Anthony Luvera 
Anthony Luvera is an artist and writer based in London. His work is exhibited internationally in galleries, public spaces and festivals including London Underground’s Art on the Underground, the British Museum, National Portrait Gallery London, Belfast Exposed Photography, Australian Centre for Photography, Malmö Fotobiennal, PhotoIreland, Goa International Photography Festival, and Les Rencontres d’Arles Photographie. His writing appears in a wide range of publications, including Photoworks, Source and Photographies. Anthony is Principal Lecturer and Course Director of MA Photography and Collaboration at Coventry University. He regularly gives workshops and talks for the Royal Academy of Arts, National Portrait Gallery, The Photographers’ Gallery, the Barbican Art Gallery, Photofusion, and community photography projects across the UK.

Nicola Shipley 
Nicola Shipley is an independent Producer, Curator, Project Manager, Mentor and Consultant. She is the co-founder and co-director of GRAIN Photography Hub. Nicola has worked with a wide range of visual arts organisations, public and private sector stakeholders such as the Library of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, Arts Council England, British Council, Redeye, FORMAT, Capsule and University of Birmingham.  She has an MA in History of Art and has a background in the visual arts and artists’ professional development, exhibitions and commissioning and a specialist interest in contemporary photography

Jennie Anderson
Jennie Anderson is the founder and owner of Argentea Gallery in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, dedicated to supporting the very best contemporary photography from both emerging and established British and international artists. Having graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Photography from Derby University, Jennie abandoned the practical element of photographic study to concentrate on the history of photography and the theories that underpin its practice. She graduated from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in 2012 with an MA in Photography, specialising in the role experiential space plays in the interpretation of photographs.

Paul Herrmann
Paul Herrmann is the Director of Redeye, current chair of The British Photographic Council, set up LOOK festival in Liverpool, and the Photographic Collections Network, the latter a knowledge exchange and advocacy network for anyone working with collections or archives. Paul is happy to discuss any aspect of work but specialises particularly in business models and career paths in photography, collaborative working, and the practical side of delivering creative projects.
