About
Rob Hornstra is a pioneer of innovative ways of funding and publishing of his own photographic stories. We are delighted to welcome Rob back seven years after his first workshop for Redeye, one of our most popular and highest-rated events. This is an exclusive one-day DIY publishing masterclass for photographers, designers and artists who want to learn more about how to construct and present long-term photography projects. Using examples of his experience as a documentary photographer, Rob will show you how to develop strategies for the presentation, funding and publication of specific projects.

Workshop Contents
Over the course of a day, Rob will outline how the Internet and digital printing techniques have opened up endless possibilities for self-published work. The curriculum will also address how to attract an audience to your project, collaboration between photographers and writers, crowdfunding and the process of slow journalism. This workshop’s primary objective is to help students become independent, liberated photographers and publishers with the confidence to share their stories with the world.

Rob Hornstra
Rob Hornstra, born in 1975 in the Netherlands, is a Dutch photographer of predominantly long-term documentary projects, both at home and around the world. He has published several books of solo work, produced documentary series for a variety of international magazines, and taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. In 2009, Hornstra and writer/filmmaker Arnold van Bruggen started The Sochi Project, culminating in the retrospective book An Atlas of War and Tourism in the Caucasus and an exhibition that toured Europe, America, India and Canada. He is the founder and former artistic director of FOTODOK – Space for Documentary Photography. Four times per year he runs a popular live talkshow about photo books in his hometown Utrecht. He is head of the photography department at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague.
