This exchange Residency Programme is for an artist based in the UK to have a dedicated Studio at Tank Loft located in the Campus of Sichuan Fine Art Institute, Chongqing and time to develop work in a new environment. The selected artist will be in residence in Chongqing, China in October/ November 2019 for 6 to 8 weeks. They are looking for an artist based anywhere in the UK, working in any medium with experience of running workshops. This residency is part of an ongoing exchange organised by QUAD, in Derby and Tank Loft, Sichuan Fine Art Institute / 501 Xu exhibition space in Chongqing.
Chongqing is the largest municipality in southwest China. The city of Chongqing, where the artist will be situated, is known for being the energetic centre of the area.
Throughout the residency, the artist will have a studio at Tank Loft and be supported by Mr YanYan a leading artist and educator based in Chongqing and his team together with Chongqing 501 Xu Artspace. The residency will include research trips as relevant, gallery/studio visits and a trip to the Sichuan Fina Art Academy Campus. QUAD will provide advice with what to expect and exciting places the artist could visit, such as Wulong Karst National Park. During the residency there is an opportunity to deliver a paid talk/workshop for the SFAI art students, and if relevant to make an open studio/exhibition event at the end of the residency.
The residency will largely be self-directed; therefore, we expect the artist to be able to be confident to be proactive, resourceful, self-motivated and organise their own schedule. For the first two weeks of this exchange, you will be accompanied by QUAD Programme Assistant, Laura O’Leary, who will support you.
