It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years, but it has! For our anniversary we will be marking this landmark year by inviting three photographers who spoke at Redeye’s first public lectures to return. It’s a chance to reflect on their photographic careers in parallel to Redeye’s lifespan.

Each in turn invites another photographer to speak – someone they admire, have worked with in the past, or are mentoring. Both photographers will have a chance to speak individually and together, to paint a picture of their inspirations, career and work.

WHO IS IT FOR?
The second session in the series sees Joy Gregory invite Ronan McKenzie. This event is for anyone who is interested in their work, or in photography generally. Early booking recommended.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS…

Joy Gregory is a graduate of Manchester Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art. She has developed a practice which is concerned with social and political issues with particular reference to history and cultural differences in contemporary society.

As a photographer she makes full use of the media from video, digital and analogue photography to Victorian print processes. In 2002, Gregory received the NESTA Fellowship, which enabled her the time and the freedom to research for a major piece around language endangerment. The first of this series was the video piece Gomera, which premiered at the Sydney Biennale in May 2010.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and has exhibited all over the world showing in many festivals and biennales. Her work included in many collections including the UK Arts Council Collection, Victoria and Albert Museum, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia, and Yale British Art Collection.

Ronan McKenzie is photographer, director and curator from Walthamstow, North East London. Ronan has worked with brands including Sephora, Adidas and Universal Standard, and publications including Luncheon, Dazed and Twin.

She recently funded and curated an exhibition titled I’M HOME, which featured four black British female photographers and aimed to create a truly accessible art space.

Ronan is currently exhibiting at Somerset House and The National Theatre, alongside working on a range of projects across a number of artistic disciplines.
