Proposals and Fundraising with Debbie Cooper
Tuesday, 1st March 7pm - 8:30pm

Writing proposals is fast becoming an essential skill for most photographers; if you want to apply for commissions, create partnerships, public engagement projects, or raise funding, to do any of these things you’ll need to write a compelling and coherent proposal, application or bid.
How do you translate the creative idea in your head into a document that others can read, and quickly understand your concept?
This session will unpick the process and is led by Debbie Cooper, one of the most experienced project managers and fundraisers in photography. Debbie looks at the route to successful proposals and funding, covering:
- The key components of a successful proposal
- How to structure your project into a timeline, and create a project budget
- How to research funding opportunties photographic projects
- How to approach sponsors.

Debbie Cooper’s photography revolves around socially engaged practice and public engagement, with influences from archive imagery and oral history. As well as having created large-scale public engagement and community projects, she has recently written and delivered projects for the British Council, NHS and District Councils.
Debbie was artist in residence for Dartmoor prison, working with inmates on a Conscientious Objector Archive project, alongside working for the NHS on a mental health archive, running the Artist Development programme at QUAD, and is an Associate Artist at Nottingham Contemporary.
Debbie currently is the manager at The Photographic Collections Network, and Engagement Manager for the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
