What is a 'member led event'?

Do you have a project you would like some feedback on? Would you like to meet other photographers in the Manchester area?

Our Come and Chat sessions are friendly, relaxed and welcoming spaces to show your work, chat with photographers about their work and business and help you feel reconnected and inspired!

About the Event

Networking event

28th May 2022; 1pm - 4pm

Are you feeling a bit disconnected from the photography community post lockdown?

This is a relaxed opportunity to reconnect with the photo community and meet other artists working within the region. We would also like to take this opportunity to (re-) introduce ourselves to you and meet you in real life. You will hear from the director of Redeye, Paul Herrmann, as well as a couple of other photographers in a short presentation. Redeye's programme co-ordinator Rebecca Burns will be there too.

Redeye's Snapshots are a series of skill sharing workshops, offering quick introductions to new creative ideas and techniques.

Join us for a 30 minute demonstration from fine-art photographer Scott Hunter, providing insight into exploring this traditional printing technique from your own home without the need for a darkroom. In this introduction to Cyanotype printing, you will gain understanding into mixing chemistry, coating papers, selecting objects, and exposing the prints.

An evening looking at photography and place. Three artists with diverse approaches will discuss their work about the interaction between landscape and experience, answering the question ‘How does our individual perception alter our interpretation of a place?’.

Please join us for a four hour beginners workshop with Redeye Member Jeni Harney to learn the step by step proccess of how to make your own Cyanotype prints. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. The event is part of a Redeye series where members suggest and host events based on their skills or interests. Find out more about suggesting an event here or sign up for membership here.

Photographic artist and Redeye Member, Natalie Wardle returns to host an evening that includes presentations from other talented northern photographers Sade Mica and Lucie Crewdson whose work looks at the human form in visual art and performance.

Natalie Wardle is a visual artist and photographer from Manchester. Her work looks at how women construct their bodies to fit in with society’s ideal body types, exploring shapewear and tape that is placed over nipples to both cover and repress their form.

The work of Sade Mica explores her experiences navigating the world as a queer, black person and the nuances that brings in fleshing out an identity that is often met with contempt and confusion.

Lucie Crewdson is a photographer living and working in Manchester. Lucie's photographic practise revolves around everyday experiences, the use of the body, elements of performance and sits within a fashion and fine art context.

During this event, Illuminate will introduce presentations from artists involved in their project and other guest speakers, investigating the lasting impact and legacy of Hull City of Culture 2017, specifically the impact it had on Hull and its cultural industries. The session will also provide Hull-based photographers with a platform to develop their network.
