The speaker of the next Redeye network meeting is Colombian photographer and visual artist Nelson Guzmán, who is currently doing a 3-month residency in Liverpool with Visiting Arts, based at Metal and Open Eye Gallery. Nelson graduated from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá in 2005 and has already exhibited widely in Colombia, including at the Salon Regional de Artistas de Bogotá and MAMBO (Museum of Modern Art, Bogotá). His work is particularly concerned with crime and the problem of evil. Using mainly painting, photography and drawing, he explores the elements and clues of this complex subject matter: the people involved and their surroundings, the images issued through the mass media, the personal and historical archives. Nelson will speak about some of the projects developed in Colombia, including 'Napoles', a series named after the hacienda of famous drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, and introduce his Liverpool's work-in-progress.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
