Redeye is delighted to welcome back Mark Watson for the next stage in his exploration of Victorian Manchester, this time examining the commercial architecture of the second half of the 18th Century, walking between Cornerhouse and Manchester Town Hall.
In 1835 Manchester was the first and greatest industrial city in the world - a place where seemingly limitless possibilities sat side by side with squalor and poverty. Today it requires a little knowledge and observation to understand - and photograph – Georgian and Victorian aspects of Manchester. It's a pleasure to have Mark Watson, architectural photographer and member of the Victorian Society's Northern Buildings Committee, to show you the landmarks and gems of the city and describe their place in history.
This event is aimed at anyone with an interest in history and photography, amateur or professional, who finds the subject interesting and would like to explore it some more (there will not be much technical information about photography). Bring your own camera, compact or SLR, some good shoes and an umbrella - the walk will go ahead even in the microscopically small chance that it's raining! We’d advise you not to bring a tripod as there might not be enough time and space to use this and you’ll end up carrying this around all day.
Meeting in the ground floor café bar area at Cornerhouse, Manchester between 10:00-10:30, with the walk starting at 10:30. The walk will wind its way through the surrounding area towards the city centre, concluding at Manchester Town Hall at approximately 14:00.
Price: £20.00 for non-members / £15.00 for student & unwaged non-members / £10.00 for Redeye Members. To register for a member ticket, please log in first with your username and password, then that option will appear next to the event prices after you follow the link below.
