About Llinos Lanini

Llinos Lanini's photography picks out the unusual and often unseen aspects of life, in towns, cities and in the countryside. For example, her series focusing on the older generation of Welsh women captures the essence of a disappearing rural Wales. She explains “My work explores my need to secure moments. Moments in rural and industrial landscapes, city landscapes, people's lives, my life. Small, simple and complex moments in a world where some moments may not endure.”

Llinos’ life ‘turned upside down’ when in 2006 and within six months of buying her first camera, her contemporary image of sheep on a Welsh hillside Defaid Bwlch-y-Groes won a Daily Telegraph competition and a trip to Singapore to capture images for the Singapore Tourist Board Calendar 2007. After that she went from strength to strength, first becoming a finalist in 2009 and then winning the Photography Award at The Welsh Artist of the Year 2010 with Siop y Pentre.

In November 2010, she was invited to speak at The National Library of Wales Lens VI Festival, Wales and the World. More recently, Trevillion Images and Millennium Images have accepted a number of Llinos’ works with six being sold for use as book covers in the Netherlands, Spain, England and the U.S.

Llinos has just taken part in the annual Helfa Gelf event, which in English means Art Trail, when across North Wales for the month of September, artists of all disciplines open their studios to the public.
