Photography Activists' Boot Camp

18 May 2013, 10:00 to 14:00

This nuts-and-bolts workshop is aimed at photographers who have an interest in getting involved in the politics of photography, and are keen to do more to campaign on a range of issues that affect photography - access, law, copyright, dealing with authorities and protecting freedom of expression.

It will outline the various key issues and explore past and existing campaigns, including both successful and less successful examples, to see what lessons can be learnt. There will be discussion of the possibilities of new campaigns and issues on the horizon. Two facilitators, both experienced campaigners from the London Photographers' Branch of the National Union of Journalists, will show how photographers can work together, start campaigns, contribute, and keep momentum.

Participants will need to have a basic understanding of the issues around photography, and be keen to work together and devote time and effort to improving things. You can work in any relevant discipline or genre, at any level, and do not need to be a member of any organisation.

TICKETS: free, by application. Please register via the link below; then you will be prompted to send a paragraph outlining who you are, any relevant background, and how you would benefit from this workshop. Deadline for applications now extended to 3 May 2013.

We are grateful to the London Photographers' branch of the National Union of Journalists for supporting this event.
